How do you conduct a concept test and a product test for an innovative product?

If you want to develop or introduce an innovative product, it's important to know how your target audience responds to it. For Elleloom, a device that helps women determine their fertile days, we did a concept test and then an in-home use test. This improved the user manual, created the FAQ, but the research also provided input for the communication around the product introduction.

A practical example of Elleloom, a device that helps women determine their fertile days

Elleloma is an innovative product that helps women determine their fertile days. It consists of a specially designed speculum with a light and camera module, and a software that analyzes pictures of the cervix using AI. Elleloom gives women easy and instant insight into their cycle phase at home and thus their fertile days, which increases the chances of pregnancy.

Improve communication on packaging and website with insights from concept test

For the concept test, a forum discussion was started in the Blauw Community with 72 women who would like to get pregnant soon. Blauw had these women read a description of Elleloom and asked them to share their opinions, expectations, questions and suggestions.

The key insights were quantified in an online questionnaire and the concept test showed that the women found Elleloom tremendously innovative and different, and that two-thirds would be willing to buy the product. But the women also questioned whether they would use Elleloom properly themselves, and some doubted its reliability.

Improve product introduction through In-Home Use test

For the product test, Blauw sent 13 women Elleloom home and asked them to try the product for two months. The women kept track of their findings in an online diary. With the respondents' permission, of course, the client was able to read along.

With these insights, an FAQ was created, answering all the questions the women had before and during the testing period. In addition, the user manual was further refined. By addressing all these questions and areas for improvement before the launch, Elleloom could expect a smoother introduction.
