Mars with ice cream, Magnum without ice cream and cookie paste on your sandwich
When Mars suddenly introduced the Mars Ice Cream I was just a little girl, that was one hell of a treat! Suddenly the brand was among the ice creams in the freezer section. Mars must not have been the first, but certainly not the last to move outside its own category. And if you ask me, the end is far from in sight. On a typical day, I buy Magnum products from the chocolate shelf and pick up Calvé peanut butter bars for on the go. Peanut butter on my bread? Nah, it's already got Lotus Speculoosspasta on it.
Guilt free
As soon as a manufacturer comes out with a healthy(er) version of one of my favorite products, it's in my shopping cart. Because products that I can eat or drink the same amounts of (or more of.... because, healthy(er)) are irresistible to me. And so I get pizza bases by the vegetable section, vega by the meat section and vegetable pasta by the... pasta! Also handy if you find vegetables just mwah. Personally, I love vegetables, so hiding them isn't necessary. But if I can leave out unnecessary carbs and trans-fatty acids on a random Tuesday night I'll bravely do so and prefer to eat guilt free. I will eat that plate of "real" pasta, or that man-steak, on my cheat day. When it is allowed. Something to do with have your cake and eat it too.
Turmeric shots and chocolate with seaweed
You used to be the bomb if you carried stracciatella in your range instead of just vanilla and strawberry. Then suddenly some genius bastard invented caramel sea salt. Brands that didn't carry caramel-salty flavors in their range simply didn't count. But more and more brands are pushing the boundaries. And really not just because it's super tasty. A turmeric shot promises incalculable health benefits. Now that bar of dark chocolate with whipweed or red curry may be a little less healthy, but with every bite you are a special (taste) experience richer.
Recognizable? Foodies who deal a lot with FMCG in their work will recognize at least one thing: my adventurous journey through the supermarket that never gets boring.
